What is the iCloud Keychain? The Keychain new feature that works as a syncing password manager for Safari on iOS and Macs. It doesn't function with third-party applications unless the apps were designed with iCloud keychain support in mind, which is a lot easier said than done because the iOS makes it hard to copy-paste passwords into apps. 1 File level syncing is not practical with the OS X Keychain because everything is stored in a single file. Each modification causes the entire file to be recreated and then synced. This hurts performance and increases the chance of conflicts. 2 The OS X Keychain slows significantly as its size increases because it creates an entire copy of the file and then replaces the original. On a Mac running 10.9, open Keychain Access. Below the login keychain you should see the “Local Items” Keychain. If you click the “Local Items” keychain you may see it populated with various password items, if using iCloud Keychain this will also include passwords saved on. (Tip: use an app like LastPass to store your passwords. Either that or let your computer store it in the keychain when you set the password.) Step 5: Back Up Your iPhone. Once you've chosen 'This computer' and decided on whether to encrypt backups or not, every time you connect your iPhone to your computer with iTunes open, iTunes will create a new backup. Oct 06, 2014  The iOS Keychain will be used to store the Master Password when Touch ID/PIN Code is enabled, allowing Touch ID/PIN Code to be used reliably in the 1Password Extension. Lastpass is synced. In fact, it is disabled on both Mac and iOS by default. If, however, you love the idea of not having saved passwords synced between devices, scroll down to learn how to enable Keychain on iOS. How To Enable iCloud Keychain On iOS. The setup is quite simple.

in iOS
I can get the iPad and iPhone 4 S to app to sync in iTunes, but I can't get the desktop application to sync with them. When I add a new entry to the desktop application and do a sync of my i devices, the new entries don't show up.

  • Please follow the steps in the user guide to set up Dropbox syncing:
    http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/iOS/Sync/Dropbox/dropbox-getting-started.html
If you are stuck on any step, please let me know which step from the User Guide you are stuck on. I'd be happy to provide more specific assistance if I know what the problem is.
  • I have or want to create a Dropbox account. One of the options for synching that agilesoft offers is through iTunes, which is what I'm using. I went through the tutorial and made sure that the itunes keychain file is the same on that already exists on my Mac. But when I make a change on my iPad or iPhone, then synch it to iTunes, the change doesn't show up in the other device or the application on my iMac
  • Each device is independent of all other iOS devices. You must manually add the keychain for each iOS device to be synced. THIS IS WHY REMOVING WIFI SYNCING WAS A MISTAKE (IMHO). Syncing is now problematic and error prone and there is no benefit to the end user who relied on WiFi syncing.
The question now is how many of us will look for a refund, if available, and how many people are we telling about our experiences. I've already posted to FB and am asking my friends, some who are writers, to pass the information to their friends to avoid 1Password V4 for iOS at this time.

I already did this: adding each device independently, as per agilebits instructions, but they still don't sync. I don't mind them not allowing wi fi sync as long as they provide an alternative solution that works that allows me to store the keychain file on a local computer.
  • Please see the relevant section in the User Guide: http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/iOS/Sync/iTunes-File-Sharing/itfs-getting-started.html
You need to drag the file in and out of iTunes as shown.
  • Yes, I already Followed all the steps in this User guide as well and my devices aren't synching amongst each other.
I did the file locating, dragging, everything.
  • iTunes File Sharing is a manual process. It is like shuttling a copy of your data file back and forth on a USB flash drive. You will need to copy it each time you want to update the information in each direction.
  • What you just described is not an acceptible/feasible option for performing this function of this software. I'm flabbergasted that this circuitoius, time consuming computer hack is the only option you are providing for people who wish to store their keychain locally. I'm speechless. I feel like you just threw my keys in the dumpster and told me every time I need one I have to go back there and dig around to get it.

I'm really sorry you feel that way, breatleb.
For 4 years, all we heard about the old Wi-Fi sync is that it is a huge source of problems and disappointment for our customers. 1Password 4 is rewritten from the ground up. There is no code shared with 1Password 3. Re-implementing Wi-Fi sync again was never on the list.
The iTunes Sharing is more secure than the old Wi-Fi sync and does not have any of its connectivity issues. It is less convenient though. We are looking at ways to make things easier but have nothing figured out yet. It is not something that can be done quickly. Our main focus at the moment is adding iCloud support to the Mac version.
We updated the FAQs and the App Store description to mention that Wi-Fi sync is not available in 1Password 4. If the lack of Wi-Fi sync is stopping you from using 1Password, please ask for a refund. The version 3 is still working and it is available in the Purchased section of the App Store if you had previously purchased it.
Just in case you were unaware of how securely 1Password encrypts your data (no matter where it is stored), here are a couple links which explain why millions of users are syncing via Dropbox and now iCloud:
Security of storing 1Password data in the cloud
1Password is Ready for John the Ripper
I don't mean to imply that you were not already aware of everything in those documents, but I know many users are simply unaware of how strongly 1Password data is encrypted before it ever even begins being synced with Dropbox or iCloud. If you are not interested in knowing, perhaps someone else coming across this thread will be.
Please do let me know if there is anything else I can help with at this time.
